SALKANTAY TREK 4D/3N
 

Trek through the highlands and canyons of eastern Peru. Salkantay is the center piece of this trek, it is a 6270 m ., with glaciers spilling from its jagged peak. The high point of the trek is the 4626 Salkantay pass.  You camp in small villages and get to experience how the local highland people live. The trek ends in Aguas Calientes, the town just below Machu Picchu. The last morning after we ended our trek and made the 4 mile hike straight up the Incan stairs to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

1st DAY: CUSCO-SORAYPAMPA-ARAYAN NIYOC

Early in the morning passengers will be collected from their hotels, after we will have a nice 6 hours bus ride to Soraypampa.  Once we are there we will pack all our gear on the horses and set off!  During the way we can appreciate beautiful mountains, after we will arrive to the path of Apacheta (4590m) where you are sure to enjoy the stunning views form the top with snow-capped mountains.  The rest of the day is spent passing more beautiful scenery until you reach the jungle.  After descending to 2890m you will arrive at Arayan Niyoq and your campsite!

2nd DAY: ARAYAN NIYOC-SAWAYACU-SANTA TERESA

Passing rushing rivers and sliding down slippery slopes all day until you reach an amazing waterfall.  It goes without saying that the scenery is amazing green valleys, huge rivers, mountain backdrop and the day finishes in the thermal baths of Cocalmayo, this is a nice time to relax and enjoy. 3rd DAY: SANTA TERESA-HIDROELECTRICA-AGUAS CALIENTES

The scenery changes as you wander through coco bean plants, banana tress, oranges and avocados.  This bit of the adventure involves being pulled along a rope in a metal cage across a raging river below and walking to Aguas Calientes.  In Aguas Calientes you will be checked in to a lovely hostel for a nice evening.

4th DAY: MACHU PICCHU
Early in the morning you will hike towards Machu Picchu, where you will have a guided tour.

 -Transfer from the train station to your hotel

*We recommend bringing pills for altitude sickness, and stomaching problems, this is the most frequent trouble for travellers

What's not Included

 -Sleeping bag (may rent in our office for $ 4 a day)

 -Lunch on the last day
