INCA TRAIL MACHU PICCHU - 2 DAYS

This machu picchu trail is the shortes trek, but still will take into the one of the world's greatest adventure. During the Inca empire, the trail served as a kind of royal highway, linking Cuzco with Machu Picchu. This trail runs across mountain sides, through a tropical cloud forest and over long inca stone stairs. It contains many buildings, including storage constructions, houses, temples and strategic observatories along the way.

Itinerary

DAY 1 CUSCO- CALIENTES

Passangers will be collected from their hotels at 05.30 am. in our private and take us to the train station to catch the train that will take us to 104 km on the Cusco-Machu Picchu railroad (starting point of the trek), arriving around 10:00 am. We start visiting the Chachabamba archaeological complex (2150 meters sea level), located very close to the control point, then embark upon an 8 km and 4 hoursn ascending hike until the archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna ( for ever young), located at 2700 meters sea level. This is an impressive complex made up of an granitic stones that use to be an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. At the top we will have magnificent views of the Urubamba River valley and the Chokes's archaeological complex located on the other side of the river, located just a few minutes away from Wiñaywayna. We will then go on and climb to Intipunku, or the sun gate, this will take an hour of hiking along a trail of flat stones on the edges of cliffs in highland jungle. From this fabulous spot, we will contemplate the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu. After we will descend to Machu Picchu and then walk Aguas Calientes. There is an option of taking the bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas calientes ($ 8) but this is not included in the price. Accommodation and overnight at the selected hotel/hostel at Aguas Celientes.

DAY 2 AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHU PICCHU-CUSCO

Te last and the most important day in this Machu Picchu trail. We recommend to start our trek very early in the morning. The idea is to hike Machu Picchu to see the sun rise that for many of our clients this is a wonderful natural spectacle. The hike take about 2 hours up hill until Machu Picchu. After sun rise there will be a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. Usually there is a free time after finish with the guided tour where passengers can walk around, climb the Huayna Picchu mountain and experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu or visit the Temple of the moon and the fabulous Inca bridge. In the afternoon we will meet in the town of Aguas Calientes where, if you like, you can visit and relax in the thermal baths. We meet at the train station to take the train to Ollantaytambo and then take a bus until your hotel in Cusco arriving between 6 or 9 in the evening.

What's not Included

Breakfast, lunch and dinner on the last day after the tour guide to Machu Picchu. You can enjoy a free time to further visit Machu Picchu and choose to have lunch at Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes (Town bellow Machu Picchu) at your own expense. Arrival in Cusco is estimated around 9.00 pm., dinner being at your own expense too. Visit to the hot springs in Aguas Calientes: a relaxing way to end-up the trek while you are awaiting the return train to Cusco, only 10 minutes from the village center, entrance fee is $ 1,50.

Current Inca Trail Regulations

As described above, no more than 500 people per day are allowed to hike the Inca Trail. This number includes all support staff (ie. porters, cooks and guides) and is very strictly controlled. Once this limit of 500 people is reached, the Trail is completely closed off for the day and no further bookings can be made. Reservations are not held on the Trail and all permits to hike must be bought as far as possible in advance with complete and correct personal information, and no modifications can be made. Any attempts at modifications result in a loss of the permit and any money paid.
