Itinerary

DAY 1: JULIACA AIRPORT-PUTINA PUNKU

This trip usually start in Puno, but we can organize a transfer if you are in Lima or any place in Peru. This adventure begins at 8 am. where we depart from Junliaca city. This ride will take us high into the Andes (15,700 feet, 4785 m), passing llama herds, glaciers and spectacular mountain ranges. We begin to descend through small Pre-Inca Sites Cuyo-Cuyo and so to the Amazon cloud forest. From here we drop deeper into the jungle and finally to San Juan de Loro-Putina Punku where will be the beginning of the rafting trip. We organise the expedition, we pack all the gear on the rafts so we can be ready to give a briefing about commands and safety instructions, followed by practice in the river. Only once the passengers have a good working knowledge of the commands and of safety we start descending the river. Today is short with nice little rapids until the first camp.

DAY 2-6

The Tambopata river is different as we enter more into the Jungle. In the beginning the river is narrow with many technical rapids level II and III and III+. As we descend, the Tambopata river changes, with more tributaries that will be increasing the volume of the Tambopata creating class IV rapids with nice waves and holes. There will be plenty of time to take pictures of the rapids and the spectacular scenery around us. After all this exiting section of rapids, the Tambopata river relaxes floating silently through the Amazon jungle, this is a good opportunity to observe the variety of life surround us. We paddle very quiet so we can see capibaras, monkeys, macaws, tapirs, caymans, giant otters, countless species of birds, butterflies and a variety of vegetation. Usually is very difficult to see jaguar and anaconda, but we can be lucky this time and observe this two great animals. In one of this days we will explore a beautiful side trek into the Amazon jungle and see the surroundings around this area. In most of the trips we have a delicious dinner with a fish that our guides will may catch on the Tambopata river.
