The Apurimac River is the source of the world’s largest River system, the Amazon River, it rises from glacier melt water of the ridge of nevado Mismi, at 5597 meters high mountain in Arequipa Province Southern Peru. In 1971 National Geographic expedition identified Nevado Mismi as the source of the Amazon River.
It flows northwest past from Cusco in narrow gorges of up to 3000 m twice as deep the Grand Canyon in USA, in the way is interrupted by waterfalls, small affluents, and hundreds of rapids.

ENVIRONMENT
Garbage disposal: all inorganic matter is returned to Cusco, including all human waste (transported by means of cargo boat), Fauna: River otter, fox, deer, condor, variety of birds and if you're really lucky: Puma!
Climate: Warm and arid. Can get a little chilly in the evening

SAFETY
There will always be a Safety kayak and Cargo boat accompanying groups. All the rafting guides who work with us are certified by the Swift water rescue and IRIA (special courses only for Rafting Guides).
WHAT TO BRING
- Sleeping bag (may rent for $2.50 per day)
- Inflatable mattress (may rent for $2.50 per day)
- Torch/ flashlight
- Clothing: lightweight long trousers (for evening), shorts (obligatory in order to wear over wetsuit), fleece/thermal top, T-shirts, bathing suit, sandals
- Personal items: eco-friendly toiletries ie. biodegradable (no place to wash except in the river, no pollutants please!!)
- Sunblock
- Insect repellent
Your travel insurance has to cover the rafting trip as well.
